Class7: Parts of Speech - Preposition and uses of Preposition

After Understanding Adverb and several Other parts of speech in our Previous Classes, today we will Learn about Preposition and uses of Preposition. We will Identify Prepositions in the Sentences and will use it in the sentences for Better Understanding.

What is a Preposition? 

Proposition are those words which we use Before a noun or Pronoun in a sentence and link it with other Noun or Pronoun in the Sentence. For Example
  1. Alisha is Bathing under the Waterfall.
  2. Tomy is Playing outside the House.
In the Above, Example Under and Outside are the Prepositions because it makes a link with the Noun Waterfall and house.
Now we Will define, Identify, and Use some of the very Common propositions in the Sentences. Have a look here.

Uses of Preposition:

The Following Words are commonly used Prepositions.
  1. In
  2. At
  3. Into
  4. Among
  5. Between
  6. After
Now we will use each of the Preposition in the Sentences to make its use easy for you.

  • Use of IN

  1. Marina lives in Kenya.
  2. They will reach in three Hours.
  3. We were all laughing all the way in the Car.
In the Above Sentences, the Preposition IN makes a bond with Noun. (Prepositions are words which we use before a noun or pronoun and bond it with another noun or pronoun).

  • Use of  AT

  1. We are going for a Rugby match at 4 PM.
  2. I will try to meet you at Aukland.
  3. She told me that they will be in the party at 6 AM.

In the Above Sentences, the word AT is Preposition.

  • Use of INTO

She jumped into Pool from a 20-meter height.
They will reach into  the Semifinal Successfully.


  • Use of After
  1. Warner Arrived in two hours after the Party.
  2. Smith will Visit Northern Pakistan after his MBBS Exams.
  3. I will marry her after my Mom returns from Morroco.

  • Use of Among & Between

we use the Prepositions 'Among' and 'between' when we match or Compare two things. 
For Example:
  1. Today's Match is between Srilanka and China.
  2. Who's Best Among John Cena & Randy Orton?

In the Above Sentences, the Words Among and Between are the Prepositions.

  • Use of ON 
  1. The Boy riding on a Brown Horse.
  2. The Girl Dancing on Stage.

  • Use of FOR and SINCE

We use the Preposition 'For' the time, which is not known.
For Example:
  1. Micheal Running for five Hours. 
  2. Randy studies daily for almost three hours.
In this sentence, the time is not known that for which five Hours?
While we use 'Since' for the time, which is Known.
For Example: 
  1. Ali Runs in this ground since 2005.
  2. She has suffered in Breast Cancer Since last Six months.
