English Tenses: Learn Present Perfect Continous tense with Examples

After a Brief lesson on Present Perfect tense, Now we are going to Learn Present Perfect Continuous tense.

What is Present Perfect Continuous tense?

Present Perfect Continous tense is the Continous version of Present perfect tense, In Present perfect continuous a Work/Even starts in the Past and is still in Progress in the Present.

How the Present Perfect Continous Tense Functions?

Subject + Have/has + Been + First form of the verb + Ing + Object.

We use Has been with Third Person Singular (he, she, it) and Have been with Second and First person singulars (I, you, they, we etc).

In Present Perfect continuous we use the First form of the verb with ING. Since and for will be also used in the sentence, Since for the known time and For for the unknown Time. For Example

1. She has been doing yoga for three hours.
2. She has been washing the car since morning.
3. They have been Chatting on Skype for two hours.
4. we have been enjoying the rain since last night.

• Negative Case:

In negative Sentences of the Present perfect continuous tense we use Not after the Helping verb (has/have) and Before Been while the first form of the main verb will remain same with its ING form.

Subject + has/Have + Not + Been + First form of the verb with ING + Object. For Example

1. We have not been bathing in the sea for 1 hour.
2. She has not been Celebrating her birthday this year.
3. They have not been watching the tennis match live on the iPhone.
4. I have not  been Buying my new Google Nexus.

• Interrogative Case:

In the Interrogative Sentences, we use the Helping verb (Has/Have) as the subject of the sentence while the subject will be place instead of Helping verb following The Additional Verb Been which will follow the main verb. See Below how will it look like

Subject (has-have) + Helping verb (the subject of the positive sentences) + Been + Verb with ING + Object + Sign of interrogation. For Example

1. Have they been looking for jobs since 2008?
2. Has she been marrying to Chris Richard this month?
3. Have we been releasing our English tenses article this Subday?
4. Has he been watching the new movie in cinema this weekend?
